In line with Gattinara, Bramaterra, and Lessona, Castellengo was once one of the most important villages of the Alto Piemonte. Historical documents demonstrate that Cascina Preziosa’s roots as a founding wine estate in Castellengo date back to the times of Napoleon. Owner Gianni Selva Bonino and Consultant Cristiano Garella have meticulously restored the estate vineyards to their former glory of the early 1900s. Gianni observes organic practices across all 3 hectares and manages his picturesque holdings of Nebbiolo and Vespolina with the utmost attention to detail.
SPANNA is aged 12 months in large 1,500-liter, medium-toast, oval oak barrels followed by 6 months in bottle. Ruby in color with hints of garnet; medium intensity. The nose is rich, complex, and dominated by fresh red and black fruits with delicate notes of wild berry preserves, licorice, and violet. A balsamic, mineral backbone with hints of forest floor and eucalyptus. On the palate is balanced, structured, and powerful. Endowed with bright acidity and savory qualities. Long, complex finish. Great potential for aging.
Pairs well with agnolotti with meat sauce; wild game; aged cheeses.
A super savory, fresh and aromatic wine. A blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera from Alto Piemonte. Great effort from Cascina Preziosa.
