Angélus is henceforward helmed by Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal represents the eighth generation of the Boüard de Laforest family.

The vineyard of Château Angélus is situated in a natural amphitheatre overlooked by the three Saint-Emilion churches. In the middle of this special site, the sounds were amplified and the angelus bells could be heard ringing in the morning, at midday and in the evening. They cadenced the working day in the vineyards and villages, calling the men and women to stop their labours for a few minutes and pray.

At Angelus, the terroirs are the result of a perfect balance between climate, soils, water reserves, vines and the people working there. Maintaining this balance, preserving the long-term future of the vineyard and its environment, optimising resources and enhancing biodiversity are central to our daily work. This concern for the environment gave rise to our commitment to virtuous and responsible farming.

2016 is a radiant vintage mirroring the incredible summer conditions which shaped its identity and determined its destiny.  The Merlots show an extremely deep color, and their rich alcohol is perfectly integrated. They are dominated by fruit, freshness, breed and elegance. The Cabernets Francs, with their crunchiness, magnify this very great vintage of Angelus and enthral us with their level of quality: a touch of cashmere tannins, great smoothness, spicy notes. They rival the Merlots in their elegance.

"This is a rich, perfumed wine, with dense tannins and intense layers of black plum and spice. The palate is firmly built yet broadened out by plump dark-fruit tones and honed by a solid, dry core." - 100 points, Wine Enthusiast

"Sporting a deep garnet-purple color, the 2016 Angélus erupts from the glass with powerful notes of blackberry pie, ripe black cherries and juicy black plums with an undercurrent of star anise, rose petals, chocolate mint, pencil shavings and woodsmoke plus a waft of allspice. The palate is pure decadence. Medium to full-bodied, rich and generously fruited, this wine is by no means heavy—it positively glimmers with freshness and vivacity, lending an ethereal nature to all that richness and power, beautifully framed by velvety tannins and finishing with epic length." - 98 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Subtle and profound aromas of blackberries, wet earth and sweet tobacco. Hints of spice, too. Full-bodied and so deep. It’s incredibly vertical and long. Just like looking down a well. Firm and powerful tannins, yet polished and balanced. Goes on for minutes. One of the greatest ever." - 99 points, James Suckling

"We are right at the top of the scale here. Richly textured, full of natural power and force yet delivered with elegance and eucalyptus freshness. A brilliant vintage for Cabernet Franc, which helped sculpt what is a gourmet and rich wine complete with liquorice, clove and tar. Brilliant, delivering even better than it did last time I tasted it, and one that has many decades ahead. Harvest October 4th to 21st. 100% new oak but already well integrated." - 98 points, Decanter
