Chateau de Villeneuve - Saumur-Champigny Vieilles Vignes 2019
Château de Villeneuve is located in Souzay-Champigny, its vineyards in the shadow of the steeple of a 15th century church. The Villeneuve family had owned the vineyards since the late 16th century, however it wasn't until a member of the family died at the Battle of Yorktown under Lafayette's command in the American Revolutionary War that estate renamed itself. Today Jean-Pierre Chevalier runs the estate along organic principles, producing some of the most outstanding Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs in the Saumur region. This Cab Franc has a beautiful stoney minerality on it, complemented by red berries and earthiness.
Cold maceration for four days before fermentation at a temperature controlled to 77ºF. Matured in two and three-year-old 400- and 500-litre barrels.
Producer: Chateau de Villeneuve
Region: Loire Valley
