At Rauzan-Ségla, selecting grape varieties is a real encounter – between the soil and its potential. The Médoc terraces provide grape varieties with multicoloured futures. Cabernet Sauvignon has established a kingdom in the gravel soils, which offer warmth and drainage on their bed of pebbles. This late-ripening grape variety takes the time it needs to create complexity and depth. Merlot reveals its different sides in the deep, fine gravel closer to the estuary. Delicacy. Radiance and fruit. Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc bring complexity to the dance with their hints of colour.
Matured at the heart of this historic vineyard, Rauzan-Ségla is an iron fist in a velvet glove. Its modesty and clear delicate touch hide a deep, intense heart. Staying true to the Margaux application, it is a truly noble nectar. Grace that reveals restraint. Multifaceted complexity. Pure sophistication and the charm of tenacity. Smooth nobility. Intense tannins. Ageing potential.
Looking, smelling and tasting a glass of Rauzan-Segla wine is an invitation to a journey like no other. This journey of pleasure begins with the eye. The beauty of a color so intense that is impossible to take one's eye off of it. A color that draws us in and makes us want to discover it secrets. The pleasure of its luxurious aromas disclosing cigar bo notes which combine harmoniously with aromas of ripe fruit. The first sip coats the palate seductively with a combination of finesse, elegance and unparalleled charm. The wine's smooth, complex texture will make you want to linger over the tasting experience. To taste a glass of Rauzan-Segla is to savor its fruity freshness and let yourself be transported by its silky smooth texture, the result of over three centuries of winemaking expertise.
"A huge, powerful, dense wine, which layers pure black fruits over dusty tannins. This is an impressive wine, proof of Rauzan-Ségla's improvements since Chanel took over ownership. It is packed with fruits, like an intense jelly, but also has dryness, acidity and good aging potential." - 94 Points, Wine Enthusiast
"Deep garnet-brick colored, the 2001 Rauzan-Ségla rolls out of the glass with open, expressive, mature notes of potpourri, star anise, incense and cigar box with a pretty core of kirsch, redcurrant jelly and dried figs. The light to medium-bodied palate delivers mature spice and dried berry layers with a light grip of chewy tannins and bags of freshness, finishing with a peppery kick. The blend this year is 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc, harvested between September 28 and October 11 at an average yield of 46 hectoliters per hectare. It was aged for 18 months in French oak, 50% new. The alcohol is 12.5%." - 91 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
