The domaine of Etienne Sauzet is made up of 26 acres, much of it in the heart of the finest premier cru vineyards of Puligny-Montrachet. The average age of the vines is 30-35 years. Gérard Boudot, owner of Domaine Sauzet, is seeking maximum finesse and an individual expression of the terroir in his wines. Boudot, who married the granddaughter of the late Etienne Sauzet, runs the domaine and has modernized and improved the vinification, making Sauzet wines among the most sought-after white wines of Burgundy. The estate has been bottling 100% of its production since the early 1950's. Since 1975, the domaine has been selling the entirety of its production in bottle. The white wines of Puligny-Montrachet are some of the most famous and most widely acclaimed in the world. This is undoubtedly due to the local microclimates and the clay, siliceous sand and lime contents of the soil.
"The 2021 Montrachet Grand Cru has a very attractive bouquet with orchard fruit, orange blossom, honeysuckle and hints of Anjou pear, gently unfolding in the glass. The palate is very well balanced, quite creamy in texture, lots of extract here, a subtle gingerbread note towards the powerful finish…yet I am more bowled over by the Bâtard-Montrachet this year. Two barrels this year." 93-95 Points, Neal Martin Vinous
"Don't Miss! A wonderfully spicy nose combines notes of exotic tea and wood with a plethora of floral elements and white peach scents. There is even better volume as well as size, weight and density to the muscular and super-compact big-bodied flavors that display huge length on the borderline tannic finish. While most competent examples of Montrachet clearly need extended cellaring but this is very definitely a 'buy and forget you own it' wine that should be stunningly good in time." 94-97 Points, Allen Meadows Burghound
