Pago de Carraovejas - Ribera del Duero 'El Anejón' 2018
Pago de Carraovejas is one of the most sought after wines produced in Spain, but not near as well known in the US. The main reason is that most of it is snatched up by thirsty Spaniards before it has the chance to leave the country. Established by Segovian restauranteur and sommelier Jose Maria Ruiz, it has become one of the crown jewels of Ribera del Duero wines.
Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón is a wine made from Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, from a plot planted in 2001 on terraces, on a hillside at 900 metres of altitude with loamy-calcareous soils of great minerality with the presence of calcareous salts.
It is a mature, powerful and structured wine. The aromas of ripe black fruit stand out, with lactic, roasted and spicy notes. It has an intense entry in the mouth. Ample and deep, but with an outstanding elegance. Without a doubt, this is one of the best wines from this area.
