At 300 feet above sea level lies a +45-acre family estate. Tua Rita was founded approximately in 1984 when its owners, Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti, purchased the first acre of land in Suvereto, a small medieval town in the Tuscan province of Livorno, on the coast south of Bolgheri.
The couple took their time to learn about the terroir and climate and didn't release their first vintage until 1992. Tua Rita achieved cult status in the late 1990s for its rich, full-bodied wines. In just five short years, its 100% Merlot received outstanding ratings from the world's most prestigious wine critics and publications. Robert Parker said the 1999 Redigaffi was "as close to perfection as a wine can get." The following year, he awarded the 2000 Redigaffi a 100-point score, making it the first wine in all of Italy to obtain those highly-coveted perfect Parker points.
Even though it's most well-known for its Redigaffi, Tua Rita makes a range of other wines. With a production of 3,400 cases a year, it remains one of the most challenging Italian wines to get hold of.
