The Château Calon-Ségur is a benchmark in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, whose wines are born of the highest standards. It was in 1670 that the granddaughter of the owner of Château de Calon married Marquis Jacques de Ségur, owner of Châteaux de Lafite and Latour in Pauillac, who gave it its definitive name by adding his own.
Then it was his grandson, the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, who took over the reins with passion and ambition. He never concealed his love for the vineyard or for Calon-Ségur, and once declared: "I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon". This is why a heart has adorned the label of Château ever since.
At the famous 1855 classification at the Paris Universal Exhibition, Château Calon-Ségur was awarded the title of Troisième Grand Cru Classé.
