Château des Quarts - Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru 'L'Orangerie du Château' 2022

Château des Quarts was created in 2012 through a joint partnership between two old friends, Dominique Lafon and Olvier Merlin.

For over a decade, Olivier had tasked himself with sourcing and making wine from the best sites within Pouilly-Fuissé and bottling them under his own label. After buying grapes from Clos des Quarts for several vintages, he was one of the first approached with the news that it was for sale. Having been already convinced of the terroir's integrity he jumped on the opportunity.

The vineyard is located in Chaintré, the southernmost village of Pouilly-Fuissé. At just over 2 hectares, the oldest vines are almost a century old and are planted on clay-limestone soils.

Premier Cru 'L'Orangerie du Château' is produced with the younger vines of the estate, planted in 2015 (2020 was the first vintage). Aging for 12 months in barrels, blended and aged for an additional 6 months in stainless steel tank, no fining, light filtration.

"As much lime as lemon in the colour. Very grapey on the nose, but in theory not muscatty as they avoided that version of chardonnay when taking cuttings to plant the new plots. "The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé L'Orangerie de Château des Quarts 1er Cru comes from the younger vines and is racked into stainless steel after 12 months (whereas the main cuvée goes back into used barrels). This is tightly wound and energetic on the nose. Citrus lemon and orange pith come through mixed with light petrichor scents. The palate is fresh and sapid on the entry, with a fine bead of acidity. It's a little spicier than the previous vintage with an elegant finish. Lovely." - 90 points, Neal Martin Vinous
