The remote, historic Hyland Vineyard is nestled in the foothills of the Oregon Coast Range in the McMinnville AVA. Pioneering wine legends, Dick Erath and Charles Coury undertook the colossal first plantings in 1971 with cool-climate, Alsatian varieties. A few years of careful tending resulted in 45 acres of own-rooted Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Gewürztraminer. Today, Hyland Vineyard is one of the Willamette Valley's oldest and largest vineyards, spanning 185 planted acres on volcanic Jory soil at elevations that range between at 650'-900'. Hyland Estates winery produces a boutique selection of wines crafted exclusively from Hyland Vineyard, from the best of these iconic vines. Additionally, this vineyard continues to be the source of fruit for many top scoring wines from some of Oregon's most recognized producers.
Stone fruit, ripe melon and candied orange on the nose that mix in with bright, crisp citrus and honeycomb notes on the attack. The back palate mixes racy notes of white pineapple and Asian Pear that finish with a balanced salinity.
"Finished dry, this retains ample fresh fruit flavors and is one of the finest examples of old vine Riesling in the country." - 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
"From Oregon's most storied old Riesling vines, the Hyland Estates Old Vine Riesling punches way above its price point, showing why the Willamette Valley may be the best West Coast growing region for the grape. The aromas flash the complexity of these old vines. Honeyed ginger aromas are flanked by ripe peach flesh and grilled orange peel. The palate shows depth and ripe fruit. Grilled lemon and smoked sea salt hint at this wine's smoky mineral core. Tangy citrus and ripe peach meet cardamom and seaspray, a delicious young Riesling that will show even more in 8 to 10 years." - 94 Points, Decanter
