Rizzi - Langhe Nebbiolo 2019

Nestled at the very top of the impressively steep, vine-clad hills of the Treiso zone of Barbaresco, the winery’s vineyards were planted as early as the 1960’s in the white marl, calcareous soil typical of this area. An impressive selection of cru Barbaresci is punctuated by the spectacular Vigna Boito  located at the peak of the Rizzi cru. The estate is managed entirely by the Dellapiana family with son Enrico as winemaker and viticulturist. Rizzi Winery participates in “The Green Experience” project which mandates guidelines for environmentally sustainable production.

100% Nebbiolo grapes; vineyards in Treiso; soils of white marl clayey- calcareous with sandy layers; hand harvested into small crates; fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperatures for 3 weeks; malolactic fermentation for 1 month; aged in 50 Hl Slavonian oak for 12 months before bottling.

Deep garnet red in color; the nose reveals a beautiful and sensual fragrance with a rich complexity and intense floral component of violet and rose, and a very crisp red fruit, raspberry and strawberry, with notes of black pepper, cloves, and licorice. Its taste is full and mellow, very balanced, with a nice tannic structure.

"The 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo from the Dellapiana family is a lovely young wine, with all of the transparency and red fruity elegance that one finds in the family’s Barbaresco bottlings as well. The wine comes in at an even fourteen percent octane in 2019 and delivers a refined bouquet of cherries, a touch of blood orange, woodsmoke, gamebird, fresh oregano, a beautiful base of soil and a hint of licorice in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and tangy, with a fine core of fruit, excellent soil signature, ripe, moderate tannins, vibrant acids and a long, complex and very promising finish. This is an excellent wine that needs a few years in the cellar to soften up its backend tannins and start to drink with generosity, but it is going to be lovely. 2026 – 2045+' - 90 points, View from the Cellar
