Château de Villeneuve - Saumur-Champigny Le Grand Clos 2019

$45.00
Château de Villeneuve is located in Souzay-Champigny, its vineyards in the shadow of the steeple of a 15th century church. The Villeneuve family had owned the vineyards since the late 16th century, however it wasn't until a member of the family died at the Battle of Yorktown under Lafayette's command in the American Revolutionary War that estate renamed itself. Today Jean-Pierre Chevalier runs the estate along organic principles, producing some of the most outstanding Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs in the Saumur region. This Cab Franc has a beautiful stoney minerality on it, complemented by red berries and earthiness.
The 25 hectares surrounding the property of the family Chevallier give complex wines marked by a great personality.
Total destemming before vatting, with 28 days of vatting. Manual punching in 40 hectoliters wooden vats. No chaptalisation. Maturing for 14 months, 50% in wooden vats of 12 HL and 50% in casks of 600 L.
This wine offers great finesse without being heavy. It is a wine that could be reserved for a long time. The tannins evolve on notes of black fruits.
