Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux - Echezeuax Grand Cru 2013

Amidst the legendary names of Vosne-Romanée, such as DRC, Domaine Leroy, and Méo-Camuzet, an internal evolution has been quietly unfolding at Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux. Over the decades, Pascal Lachaux worked tirelessly to revive the legacy Domaine Robert Arnoux, named for his father-in-law who died in 1995. With very little experience, Lachaux took over winemaking duties in the 1990s with fresh eyes and a thoughtful approach. By making small adjustments in vineyard applications, vinification processes, and aging vessels, Lachaux created long-lasting effects with minor shifts in methodologies.

Over the years, this gradual transformation spawned a new era in quality, inspiring a change in name to Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux in 2008 to reflect this shift. Today, the ethos of modest innovation continues in the hands of Robert’s grandson Charles Lachaux, who has forged ahead along his own path by continuing to rethink all aspects of winemaking. The constant re-evaluation of technique and philosophy ensures the overall approach remains in service of the grapes and the terroir, and not of trends or tradition.

Having inherited parcels from some of Côte d’Or’s top villages, Arnoux-Lachaux is not only able to showcase consistency in character, but also distinct expressions from throughout Côte de Nuits. The majority of their holdings fall within the boundaries of Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges, with a handful of more northerly plots included in their portfolio. Whether the grapes are being sourced from village-level Chambolle-Musigny or Grand Cru Echézeaux, opulence and silky refinement persists throughout, demonstrating a distinct house style.

Partial whole cluster inclusion, native yeast fermentation, with moderate use of new oak during fermentation and aging.

"Brooding, floral and pungently spicy nose features notes of plum and dark berry fruit scents....outstanding richness to the full-bodied and attractively textured flavors that possess good muscle." - 93 Points, Burghound

"The nose offers a sexy amalgam of redcurrant, rose petal, iron, smoky oak and truffley underbrush. Quite silky and plush for the year but the ripe red fruit and soil flavors are accented by an element of peppery herbs. Finishes ripe." - 91 Points, Vinous
