Hugel Riesling - Grossi Laüe 2012

IN STOCK

Hugel & Fils, founded in 1639 in picturesque Riquewihr, Alsace, France, is still 100% family owned and managed by the 12th consecutive generation of the family. Vines have been cultivated in Alsace for more than 2,000 years and have brought great prosperity to the region. The second driest wine region in France, Alsace has a unique climate that enables the grapes to ripen slowly, giving dry, aromatic wines with great finesse and unequalled intensity: a perfect match for most Western and Asian cuisine.

The grapes are taken in small tubs to the presses, which are filled by gravity, without any pumping or other mechanical intervention.

After pressing, the must is decanted for a few hours, then fermented in temperature-controlled vats (at 18 to 24°C). The wine is racked just once, before natural clarification during the course of the winter. The following spring, the wine is lightly filtered just before bottling, and the bottles are then aged extensively in our cellars until released for sale.

"Fragrant nose with delicate peach and quince aromas that are remarkably fresh for the wine’s age. Broader and bolder on the palate than the nose suggested, this is a concentrated and elegant dry riesling that’s just beginning to give its best. Super food-friendly! Very long, clean finish. Drink or hold." - 95 Points, James Suckling

"The 2012 is a quite different expression to the 2013. The vines experienced a more even growing season, and the result is a more savoury wine that has less fat and more focus. The crystalline structure holds pure stone fruits and a seam of stony, mineral acid which draws onto a long, fresh finish. Beautiful." - 94 Points, Decanter
