Classic atributes of the Tempranillo grapes combined with a passion and experience typically found in the old vineyards of Rioja. These are translated into the complex flavours and round tannins found in this wine. An experience for very special occasions.
Vinification in wooden open-top vats with cold maceration for 24-48 hours and fermentation during 10-12 twelve days with two daily “pisages” in and a small pumping over. Aging for 15 months in new French oak barrel.
"The 2010 Pagos Viejos is a blend from different plots of old-vine Tempranillo over 50 years old, from the villages of Laguardia, Elvillar and Leza, fermented in open wooden vats and aged for fifteen months in French oak barrels. It’s a backward and tight wine, initially showing some wood, but it soon comes back with fresh red fruit with the depth and complexity of the old vines. Sweet, polished tannins, very persistent, a great subtle wine, power with elegance. Superb! Drink 2014-2025." - 94 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Inky ruby. A complex, intensely perfumed bouquet evokes red and dark berry preserves, smoky Indian spices, vanilla and pipe tobacco. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering black raspberry, cherry-cola and spicecake flavors and a jolt of tangy acidity. This fleshy, vibrant wine finishes with strong energy, supple tannins and superb persistence." - 94 points, Antonio Galloni Vinous
