Bertani - Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2010

Bertani’s impact on Veneto wine making, particularly in Amarone production, is so considerable that ‘Bertani’ and ‘Amarone’ are nearly synonymous. Their 150+ year history is dotted with groundbreaking initiatives and royal accreditation. While respectful of their past, Bertani strives towards innovation, using progressive techniques and equipment allied with extensive experience and a deeply felt respect for tradition to provide wines of uncompromising quality.

Grapes are dried in traditional drying rooms, without forcing temperature or humidity controls. Then they rest on racks for 99 days and are crushed in early January. Aged for 8 years in 50-100 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels.

A fantastic, Barolo-like nose of great aromatic dimension and class. A palate of huge concentration with such pure lines: extremely intense and focused. Lovely grainy tannins and a cedary quality to the whole. This is a monumental wine which dazzles with its complexity and beauty. Food match suggestions It can be paired with red meat, game and mature cheese, but is also perfect at the end of a meal or as a meditation wine.

"For a 2010, this is still very fresh indeed, showcasing sour cherries, red plums, citrus, orange peel and grenadine. Very linear and tangy on the palate, but the muscular tannins provide depth and power. Medium-to full-bodied and medium-chewy on the vibrant finish. Beautifully crafted and expertly shaped. Flag-bearer for the modern style of Amarone. Drink now." - 95 points, James Suckling
