Avancia Nobleza Godello is the result of a barrel selection of wine sourced from the Finca Aeiroá, planted in 1939 above O Barco de Valdeorras on slate and schist soils. This spectacular site is a field blend primarily of Godello intermixed with Mencía and other red grape varieties. The northern orientation of this site and slate soils produces wines of remarkable freshness and minerality.
Bunches are partially destemmed (but not crushed) and partially maintained whole for the press, which is carried out in a horizontal pneumatic press. The must undergoes a static settling in stainless steel before being racked to puncheon and demi-muid (500L & 600L), 33.33% new, and inoculated with a pied de cuve started with neutral yeast. Fermentation is carried out at low temperatures.
In 2016, Robert Parker, Jr. stated “One of my favorite wineries in Spain is Bodegas Avancia. This is a small estate of roughly 23 acres, dry farmed (a characteristic of all of the selections of Jorge Ordóñez), with organic viticulture. Their specialty is working with the Godello grape, which may well be Spain’s finest indigenous white grape. It has the texture of a Chardonnay, but with crisp, mineral and floral notes in its aromatics. Avancia is certainly the top producer of this intriguing and delicious dry white.”
"This medium-straw-colored wine has a nose of Granny Smith apple, dried apri- cot and curry leaf. Dried thyme and sage notes ply the palate alongside vivid acidity and tangerine, lemon and green-apple avors. The nish is equal parts bright and savory.” - 94 Points, Wine Enthusiast
