Chacra was created by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta (the grandson of Sassicaia's creator), in 2004 with the intention of finding the most unobstructed expression of the climate, micro-climate, and terrior of Mainqué in the Río Negro region of Patagonia.
Río Negro is a a surprisingly perfect spot for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Smack in the middle of Patagonia, temperatures are high at times; but the strong winds coming down the Andes cool the vines. Night temperatures drop by as much as 40 degrees preserving the vital acidity and fruit qualities that make great wines.
Pure, minerally and powerful, with concentrated flavors of red plum and dried raspberry, loaded with powerful meaty notes. Sandalwood accents linger on the finish, showing caressing tannins.
Its structure being rather airy and open, Barda was conceived to be consumed while still fresh and young. Its alcohol percentage is generally low – 12 to 13 percent. Produced from Chacra’s youngest vineyards, Barda has a strong and character and is intended to be versatile – a perfect companion for most foods. The vineyards, planted in 1990, grow on slightly sandy soils. As all our vineyards, Barda’s vineyards are ungrafted and massale selection yielding over 2 kilos per plant. It is fermented at low temperatures in round cement tanks, with natural and unfiltered indigenous yeasts.
Aged: 50% in concrete tanks and 50% in French oak barrels (15% new) for 11 months
100% natural and unfiltered
Vinonueva Tasting Notes: Bright cranberry and cherry notes dominate, w/ brilliant structure and fine, fine tannins. Simple by many accounts, but also refined. Produced by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, grandson to the founder of the legendary Sassscaia, is producing excemptional, Burgundian style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Patagonia, at the very southern tip of Argentina. Cool climate wines of finesse.
“Extremely aromatic, with very floral aromas of lavender, violets, peaches and citrus blossoms. It’s medium-bodied with firm and crunchy tannins. Structured and solid as a rock. Only 11% alcohol. Magic. Drink now. Why wait?” - 97 Points, James Suckling
“The 2024 Cincuenta y Cinco was sourced from vines planted in 1955 on sand-dominated soils with silt and a small amount of clay content. It offers a hauntingly multidimensional expression of the Chacra project with a weightless allure than sets it apart within an impressive roster of wines. It opens with a detailed, blue-fruited nose radiating violet and rose petal aromas with an undercurrent of turned earth. The palate deftly balances a sleek, suave profile with nimble energy and palpable grace, effortlessly transitioning into a long, nuanced, ethereal finish whose complexity and dimension dramatically juxtaposes its slender frame. While I feel the Treinta y Dos bottling offers a slightly more complete expression of the Chacra project, this is a spectacular example of Patagonian Pinot Noir and one to measure others against.” - 96 Points, Wine Advocate
“Located on silt and sandy soils in Mainqué, 1955 is an eight-hectare vineyard that’s celebrating its seventieth birthday in 2025. Fermented with 50% whole bunches, this complex Pinot Noir has concrete, amphora and old barrel components, lovely zip and focus for a wine with 11% alcohol, wild strawberry and redcurrant fruit, a slightly salty undertone, a whisper of clove and a silky, palate-caressing finish.” - 95 Points, Tim Atkin
