Château Le Gay - Pomerol 2014

Made from near-miniscule yields of just 15-20 hectolitres per hectare, Le Gay’s wines – typically a blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc – are concentrated, deeply flavoured and provide the rich, opulent texture one would expect from a solid Pomerol. One that certainly stands up to its illustrious neighbours – Domaine de l’Eglise, Chateau Gazin and Chateau Lafleur-Petrus to name a few – and indeed at a much fairer price. It is aged in oak casks for 18-20 months. Le Gay is a Pomerol property on the rise.

"The 2014 Le Gay is blessed with a fabulous bouquet of brambly red berry fruit tinged with black truffle, roasted chestnut and just a hint of hung game. There is marvelous energy here, the aromatics keeping you engaged. The palate is medium-bodied with superb purity, certainly very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Sure, there is a veneer of vanilla oak to be assimilated on the finish, but there is such depth and persistence that this will be no problem. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well balanced and gentle in style, caressing with pure strawberry and cranberry scents towards the elegant finish. This is a great Le Gay.
