At Château Thivin, the oldest wine-growing estate in Mont-Brouilly, there reigns a special atmosphere — that of a château on a human scale where the 6 generations of the Geoffray family have been producing quality wines in the greatest respect for the terroirs. The hand-picking of the grapes and the rather “hands-on” vinification make it possible to obtain authentic wines that reflect their terroir.
The estate’s vineyards are primarily located in the Côte de Brouilly and Brouilly crus, but we also produce Beaujolais White, Rosé, and Effervescent wines from the most magnificent vineyards in Beaujolais.
n a due east-facing 5.5 ha hillside, on a formation of the first foothills of the Massif Central, with a soil of friable pink granite containing little organic matter. Two cadoles (dry-stone huts), one from the 18th century, testify to the historic nature of this terroir. This is a part of the appellation that we particularly like, for the Granitic purity and its poor soils that give distinctive wines with very elegant fruit aromas.
Vinification in whole bunches in our hillside cellars, whose successive levels allow us to make maximum use of gravity, so as to avoid using either pumps or conveyors for the grapes. Maceration for only 8 days in order to capture all the freshness of the fruit, matured for 7 months in cement vats.
Beautiful cherry red colour, floral, fruity bouquet, round on the palate with fresh garden fruits; underpinned by supple tannins. Serving temperature: 14–16°C.
"Enticing nose of red fruit with some wild strawberry character. Medium-bodied, juicy and silky, this has a spot-on balance of ripe fruit and soft tannins. Long, very harmonious finish that pulls you back for more. From an east-facing slope with pure granitic soil that's very sandy. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold." - 92 Points, James Suckling
Vinonueva Tasting Notes: A great example of exceptional Beaujolais, from a benchmark producers of wines village of Brouilly. The wine displays fragrant crushed red fruit, and a classic herbaceous character. It is at once elegantly earthy, with have deep fruit presence. The palate follows similarly, with medium body and fine tannins.
