Chandon de Briailles wines are vinified and aged in the purest Burgundian tradition, their wines express themselves with great freshness and reflect their terroir and their climat of origin. Wines without artifice, generous and well-constructed, that gain in complexity through aging. Wine as close as possible to its origins Our doctrine is to produce wines for keeping that may be tasted and appreciated at all moments of their life. Each climat can produce, as a function of the specific vintage, a thoroughbred wine that will go well with different dishes. We want each of our wines to express its terroir and its vintage, through its aromatic expression but also through its texture and the quality of its tannins.
The Fournaux vineyard is classified as 1er cru and village depending on the parcel. Chandon used to make a Fournaux 1er Cru, but as of 2018, they started to blend two thirds 1er Cru fruit with one third village level to make a 'super' Savigny village, preferring this blend to making two different cuvées. It's aged for 18 months in neutral barrels. 80% whole cluster. Very pretty with nice density and complexity.
Importer notes: "The Chandon de Briailles wines are truly gems within the Côte d'Or. They are not quite like any other Burgundy. When destemming, extraction, and new oak were the fashion, they were bottling all of their wines with 100% whole clusters and no new oak. Even today, with a max of 20% new oak, it's very low for grand cru Burgundy. Nothing quite stands still here and the only constant is the unending quest to learn more and experiment to achieve the best expression possible of Savigny-les-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses, and Corton, irrespective of fashion"
