Founded in 1987, Domaine Henri Magnien is a small family estate, with 6 hectares, located in Gevrey-Chambertin. After working side by side with his father Francois, Charles took over the domaine in 2012 and has taken the wines to new heights. He is considered to be one of the rising stars in Burgundy.
They have been using an old clone which is called Pinot Noir Magnien, aged between 70 to 100 years old, bringing unusual power and spiciness to the wines. The domaine has many of the very best vineyards, including Lavaux St-Jacques, Les Cazetiers and Ruchottes-Chambertin. In the past five years, they have converted 70-80% of their vineyards to organic viticulture.
Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 from Domaine Henri Magnien is a concentrated grand cru, luminous and of incomparable fruit purity. The aromas of wild berries, plums, wild flowers, rose petal, truffle and orange zest mingle with a velvety texture on fine tannins. A marvel of elegance and sensuality concluded with a long and fragrant finish. Class in its purest form for what is certainly the most elegant of the Grands Crus.
"These are supremely well-crafted wines from a gifted winemaker who is only just receiving due respect. His Les Cazetiers is probably the crown jewel despite his Ruchottes-Chambertin, replete with succulent tannins, but the leitmotif across his range is tension, freshness and energy." - Neal Martin, Vinous
"Medium crimson in colour. A pleasing strawberry and alpine strawberry nose with some delicacy. Then the concentration builds further on the palate, with very refined tannins at the back, and a persistent continuation of the delicate fine boned fruit. A pure and stylish Ruchottes which hints at the ethereal. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted: November 2023." - 95-97 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
"The 2022 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is fleshy and polished, wafting from the glass with notes of red berries, peonies, sweet spices and orange zest. Full-bodied, satiny and charming, with a velvety attack that segues into a bright core of fruit, it concludes with a saline finish" - 93-95 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
