Fortunate Son - The Warrior 2021

IN STOCK

Fortunate Son, initially launched in 2009 under the Hundred Acre umbrella, was reborn in 2018 as its own sister brand to the cult winery, reimagined by renowned winemaker Jayson Woodbridge. Since this relaunch, the boutique winery has rapidly ascended to cult status in its own right, standing as a testament to Woodbridge's incredible talents and dedication to Napa's heritage.

Crafting meticulously produced Cabernet Sauvignons and blends that showcase the best of Napa's terroir, Fortunate Son combines innovative viticultural practices with a commitment to preserving historic vineyards. These styles offers wine enthusiasts a chance to indulge in exceptional, cult-caliber wines at a more accessible price point than its esteemed sibling, delivering a premier California wine experience.

At the heart of Fortunate Son's operation is the Historic David Fulton Vineyard, one of Napa's oldest and longest continuously family-owned properties. This acquisition underscores Woodbridge's commitment to preserving the valley's viticultural legacy, a mission he's pursued for over 25 years through collaborations with small family-owned vineyards across the region.

Aged for 34 months in 100% new French oak. We only use the finest French oak barrique with stave wood that is hand-selected for ultra-tight grain, then air dried for three years before being made into barrels.

"One of the stars here, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon The Warrior is awesome juice. Exhibiting a dense purple hue as well as killer notes of black cherries, currants, iron, and cocoa, it's rich and full-bodied, with a broad, layered, seamless mouthfeel, plenty of tannins, and a great finish. It’s a brilliant Cabernet Sauvignon to drink any time over the coming two decades." - 98 Points, Jeb Dunnuck

"This is the first step into Hundred Acre territory—an entry point before graduating to the higher prices of the main label. It’s pretty profound. The aromas are intense, with gorgeous scorched earth, sagebrush, blood orange, and flamed grapefruit zest. Jayson Woodbridge often talks about walking through the vineyard and inspecting each cluster. He will do 5–7 passes, picking just a fraction of the fruit with each pass—perhaps only 1/10th—ensuring that all the fruit is perfect. Rich, earthy notes of black truffle come through, with the wine being full-bodied, underpinned by a deep vein of fragrant, mineral-scented tannins, salty crushed stones, and a framework of racy acidity that promises longevity. This is an iron fist Cabernet, profoundly structured with exotic layers of fruit, spices, florals, and a wealth of ironstone minerals. Swelling with full-bodied richness, it offers creamy-textured blackberry and cherry fruit, liquorice and hints of un-smoked tobacco. Jayson Woodbridge, the founder of Hundred Acre, purchased the David Fulton Vineyard in St. Helena on Fulton Lane. A winery on-site now serves as the home of Fortunate Son, with 6 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon vines managed by Jim Barbour. In 2023, Woodbridge appointed his son Cameron as cellar master." - 98 Points, Decanter
