Domaine Henri Magnien - Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru 'Les Cazetiers' 2021

Founded in 1987, Domaine Henri Magnien is a small family estate, with 6 hectares, located in Gevrey-Chambertin. After working side by side with his father Francois, Charles took over the domaine in 2012 and has taken the wines to new heights. He is considered to be one of the rising stars in Burgundy.

They have been using an old clone which is called Pinot Noir Magnien, aged between 70 to 100 years old, bringing unusual power and spiciness to the wines. The domaine has many of the very best vineyards, including Lavaux St-Jacques, Les Cazetiers and Ruchottes-Chambertin. In the past five years, they have converted 70-80% of their vineyards to organic viticulture.

It is a wine of perfect poise, with middling intensity, a high class fine ripe red fruit with occasional points of something closer to black, a saline touch which is the Cazetiers minerality expressing itself. "The 2021 Gevrey Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru, which Magnien describes as his "garden" that has technically been around since 1656, has a compelling bouquet with black plum, quince and crushed limestone scents that unfold in the glass. It gains intensity with just a few swirls. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins.
