HdV is a venture between the Hyde Family of Napa Valley and the de Villaine Family of Burgundy (Domaine de la Romanée-Conti). The families, related by marriage, share long histories in French and Californian winemaking. HdV have brought together the knowledge and experience for the purpose of creating single vineyard wines from the slopes of Hyde Vineyards.
The HdV Chardonnay is the flagship wine, showcasing the legendary terroir of Hyde Vineyard. Two selections of mature Hyde Chardonnay vines build its frame: the small clusters of Wente bring out notes of citrus blossoms, yellow apple, and a touch of gunpowder while enhancing the complex mineral and savory characters. The Calera selection contributes balance, with fresh aromas of pear, peach blossom, citrus, and vibrant acidity.
The blend is generally 60 percent Old Wente and 40 percent Calera Chardonnay selections. Aged 18 months in French oak barrels, 20% new.
"A stunning version, with notes of candied orange peel, Bartlett pear, lemon blossoms and lemon curd that are fresh, pure and lively. Then a chorus of complexity comes in, including buttered, toasted brioche, dried lemon thyme and salted, roasted hazelnut, with a creamy, elegant texture that helps the harmony linger on the long finish." - 95 Points, Wine Spectator
