In the early 1800’s, Champagne broker André-Michel Pierlot founded what would become Maison Laurent Perrier in the village of Tours‑sur‑Marne. Ownership eventually passed to the first cellar master, Eugène Laurent and then, in 1887, to his widow, Mathilde-Emilie Perrier. She added her surname to his to give the House the name Veuve Laurent‑Perrier. Eugénie-Hortense Laurent succeeded her mother and in 1939 sold the estate to Marie-Louise de Nonancourt, a widow with four children.
Following WWII, one of those children, Bernard, completed a demanding apprenticeship in the vineyards before becoming CEO at the age of just 28. Under his leadership, attached to the traditions of the Champagne region and the quality of its people and wines, Laurent‑Perrier became a true innovator in Champagne.
At the end of the 1970s, Laurent-Perrier was one of the few Champagne Houses to choose stainless steel vats. Controlling the first fermentation at a low temperature allows the wine to retain its freshness and preserve the complexity of its aromas. This practice contributed to the development of the House style: freshness, elegance and purity. Bernard de Nonancourt further showed his ambition for Laurent-Perrier by having the first temperature-controlled vat room built.
From 1983 to 2004, Cellar Master Alain Terrier perfected the art of blending. He selected the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier grapes that make up the final composition from 319 villages in the Champagne AOC area (including 17 Grands Crus and 44 Premiers Crus), with each batch vinified individually. This plot-by-plot approach has become a signature of the House, offering the Cellar Master a wide range of aromas, terroirs, and styles from which to craft the final blend.
The family succession continued in 2019, with the arrival of Lucie Pereyre de Nonancourt, Bernard’s granddaughter. After training with the Cellar Master, the production teams, and the sales teams, she now represents the House and its unique range of champagnes, exported worldwide to more than 160 countries.
100% Grands Crus. Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims: Ambonnay, Bouzy, Mailly, Verzenay. Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs: Avize, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. A very rigorous selection of locations for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes that have reached perfect and simultaneous maturity. Aged 10 years.
“Glistening red cherries and macerated strawberries meet creamed vanilla biscuits and pastry. Deeply gastronomic with a lush crunchy texture, vivacious mousse and an engaging flow of acidity which sails through to the long savoury finish.” - 97 Points, Decanter
“Offers a plush texture that carries gorgeous flavors of macerated cherry and strawberry preserves, blood orange gelée, toasted walnut, chamomile and saffron. Revealing a rich profile deftly integrated with a delicate spine of acidity and a minerally underpinning, this is effortlessly bright and graceful on the palate. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Drink now through 2037.” - 96 Points, Wine Spectator
“A blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay that are pressed together, Laurent-Perrier's new 2012 Brut Alexandra Grande Cuvée Rosé was disgorged in January 2022. Wafting from the glass with rich aromas of orange oil, macerated red berries, stone fruits and petals, it's medium to full-bodied, bright and pillowy, with a fleshy core of fruit and delicate phenolic structure that enlivens its sapid finish.” - 94 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
