Mas Amiel - Grenache Natural 2021

IN STOCK

Mas Amiel is located in Maury , in Roussillon . In 1816, around a gambling table, the bishop of Perpignan was pitted against an engineer from the Ponts et Chaussées, Raymond Etienne Amiel . The clergyman ends up betting on one of his lands, called Domaine des Goudous. Luck is not on his side and the estate changes hands. The property then has 10 hectares of vines in the middle of the garrigue. In 1907, Mas Amiel was taken over by Charles Dupuy who ran the estate until his death in 1916. His son Jean took over when he returned from the war. It develops and produces a natural sweet wine under the “Mas Amiel” brand. His son, Charles, will continue the expansion until 1997. The estate will be taken over in 1999 by Olivier Decelle . Today, the 170 hectares of vines are divided into 130 plots and the grapes are used to produce Vins Doux Naturels as well as Maury Sec , AOC recognized in 2011. The estate has been certified in organic farming since 2014 .

Mas Amiel Natural Grenache is made from several plots of Grenache Noir grown on a calco-schist terroir in places called Cabirou and Devèze. After the manual harvest, the harvest is sorted twice and then destemmed. The vinification takes place in stainless steel vats of 50 hectoliters and is carried out by infusion . The wine is aged in concrete vats . No addition of SO2 even before bottling.

Red with deep dark ruby tints. Aromas evoking the very best Grenache wines, including fresh fruit, grapes, cherry, and sloe berry with light menthol notes. On the palate, highly present cherry notes come to the fore, joined by a creamy and smooth texture balanced by refreshing acidity. The taste evokes Grenache from vines planted in a schist soil at
Mas Amiel. Highly digestible.
