The Amorim family, deeply rooted in the world of wine, has a rich history that stretches back to 1870. Initially known for producing cork stoppers for the esteemed Port Wine cellars, the family has evolved into one of Portugal’s most renowned family groups, with diverse business interests across many countries and sectors. Since 1999, the fourth generation, led by Luísa Amorim, has embraced the wine industry, upholding the family’s profound respect for historical heritage and the reputation of two of Portugal’s important wine regions—the Dão and the Douro.
With a total of 127 hectares of vineyards, the Amorim family focuses on cultivating indigenous grape varieties on a parcel-by-parcel basis. They skillfully blend traditional practices with sophisticated technology to produce exceptional wines. Their dedication to preserving local culture and respecting historical heritage is evident in their two pioneering wine tourism projects in the Douro and the Dão regions. Taboadella, one of their estates, holds ancient roots, dating back to Roman times when it served as an upper-class rural estate with a wine cellar, house, and barn. Today, the Amorim family’s commitment to quality winemaking continues, drawing inspiration from their historical legacy and utilizing modern approaches.
