Founded in 1864 in Ribera Del Duero, Vega Sicilia is a widely regarded as one of the greatest wine producer in the world. Celebrated for its fusion of tradition and modernity, the estate embodies the values of excellence, patience and respect for the land where its extraordinary wines come from.
Adopted by the Álvarez family in 1982, the winery is committed to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship. With a focus on the Tempranillo grape, locally known as “tinto fino,” Vega Sicilia’s vineyards span 250 hectares, cultivating vines that are a minimum of 10 years old on schistous bedrock and chalk-based topsoil. The winery takes pride in its patient approach to winemaking, allowing some labels to age over 10 years, and boasts a state-of-the-art facility that adheres to international environmental standards, including advanced recycling and repurposing practices.
Pintia combines the tradition and character of Toro with the modernity and elegance inherent to the estate. The Tinta de Toro vines are rooted in poor, stony, sandy soils in a climate with low rainfall and marked temperature contrasts. Given the potential of this terroir, choosing the right moment to harvest the grapes helps to obtain wines with balance and finesse.
11 months in barrels and amphorae, and 30 aging in bottle. The percentage of new oak barrels used for ageing was 80%, American oak increasing 5% and reaching 25 %, providing greater density in the wine. 75% French oak was used for this aging stage.
"A graceful red, with lovely purity to the core of mulberry and roasted black plum fruit. Shows flattering notes of rooibos tea, fennel seed, vanilla, espresso and mineral. Defined by sculpted tannins, this is enmeshed in a silky texture, while lightly mouthwatering acidity carries the detailed profile on the lasting finish. Drink now through 2040. 20,354 cases made, 1,519 cases imported.” - 93 Points, Wine Spectator
