We are thrilled to shine the spotlight with a walkthrough tasting, on a rising star from the esteemed town of Gevrey-Chambertin: Domaine Henri Magnien. This exceptional producer has captivated us with its remarkable quality and dedication to excellence.
BACKGROUND
When we first encountered Henri Magnien's wines a few years ago, we were astounded by their caliber and surprised by their limited presence in the USA. These wines genuinely offer immense drinking pleasure, and their reasonable pricing is even more enticing despite their limited availability.
Our partnership with Charles Magnien, the driving force behind the domaine's success, has been remarkable. He is the twelfth generation at his family's domaine and took over from his father in 2009. As one of the top young vignerons in Burgundy with more than ten vintages under his belt, the Henri Magnien wines are quickly becoming recognized as some of the best in the village. Charles is gaining well-deserved recognition among Gevrey-Chambertin growers. His estate boasts ancient vines that infuse the wines with intense spice and power. However, Charles' winemaking philosophy emphasizes gentle extraction, delicacy, and moderate use of oak. The result is a collection of fine wines that can be enjoyed in their youth or cellared for further development.

Domaine Henri Magnien possesses some of the finest vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin, including well-known sites like Lavaux St-Jacques, Les Cazetiers, and Ruchottes-Chambertin. Over the past five years, the estate has made significant strides in embracing organic viticulture, converting 70-80% of its vineyards. This commitment to sustainability and terroir expression shines through in every bottle.
Additionally, Charles Magnien currently serves as the president of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation, a testament to his expertise and dedication to the region's winemaking heritage.
