On one side the Loire and on the other the tufa hillside, welcome to Montlouis-sur-Loire, in the heart of Touraine. Birthplace of Domaine François CHIDAINE which now extends over 45 hectares.
Chenin Blanc reigns supreme over the 22 hectares of Montlouis and the 10 hectares of Vouvray. The vines that thrive in more than fifty plots have been farmed organically since 1992 (certified by Ecocert) and biodynamically since 1999 (certified by Biodyvin). They take root sometimes on flint clay soils, sometimes on clay-limestone soils which transmit a palette of nuances to the grapes...
The remaining 13 hectares give pride of place to the Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Grolleau, Cabernet Franc, Côt and Pineau d'Aunis grape varieties a little further east of the Cher Valley under the Touraine appellation.
As a winegrower, Biodynamics synthesizes a way of working and thinking about viticulture. It is both an outcome and a quest. A result because this philosophy of the terroir puts the plant at the center of our concerns and it pushes us to be demanding. But it is also a perpetual quest for more qualitative work that respects the environment. Biodynamics consists of enhancing the soil and the vine in its natural environment thanks to preparations made from plant, animal and mineral materials. These preparations must be applied at specific times in the cycle of the year: this is the dynamic part. Maria Thun's calendar was developed from the solar and lunar rhythms that influence the growth of the vine. No chemical phytosanitary product is used in the vineyard.
You will find, in these wines of Touraine appellation, appreciable on the youth, the greediness and the freshness typical of these beautiful clay-limestone soils.
This is a classic styled Loire valley sauvignon balnc. Produced entirely from biodynamically farmed vineyards around the villages of Montrichard & Chissay-en-Touraine, just north of the Cher river.
Minerals and citrus are packed into this beauty that shows surprising length and complexity for the appellation.
Hard to beat this Sauvignon Blanc at this price. A great everyday drinking option.
