Villa Collazzi is one of the most impressive estates in all of Tuscany. This architectural landmark was originally designed by Michelangelo in 1560 for his friend, Agostino Dini. It offers commanding views of the surrounding countryside. I Collazzi is a property of the Marchi brothers, Carlo and Bona. During the last decade the Marchi brothers invested heavily in the development of Collazzi’s farming business, renewing the vineyards and restructuring the cellar, with the goal of producing excellent wines.
Deep red color. Elegant, complex aromas of spicy balsamic and hints of ripe black fruits. Silky, rich, intense and full-bodied on the palate. The wine finishes with roundness and elegance from the beautifully balanced structure.
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot; alcohol: 14.5%; estate vineyards near Galluzzo in Impruneta province (Florence); clay, limestone, partly sandy soils enriched in minerals; drier, warmer climate in natural ampitheater allows for longer ripening; each variety and plot hand harvested and vinified separately; rigorous manual berry sorting before pressing; fermented in small stainless steel barrels; malolactic fermentation in oak barriques; aged in 225 L French oak barrels for 18 months; bottle aged for 12 months.
“Currants with an underlying aroma of vanilla bean and lavender that turns to crushed stone and dried earth. Medium- to full-bodied with polished and fine tannins that run the length of the wine. Shows structure with finesse. Cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot. Best after 2026.” - 95 Points, James Suckling
“The 2020 Collazzi from Tenuta I Collazzi is composed from this cuvée’s customary blend of fifty percent cabernet sauvignon, twenty-five percent cabernet franc, twenty percent merlot and five percent petit verdot. The wine undergoes malolactic in older barriques, and then is aged for eighteen months prior to bottling in newer barrels, with half the casks new and half one wine barrels. The 2020 vintage of Collazzi IGT again comes in at fourteen percent alcohol and delivers a superb bouquet of sweet cassis, dark berries, cigar wrapper, dark soil tones, coffee bean and a well-done framing of spicy oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and quite pure on the attack, with an outstanding core of fruit, ripe, fine-grained tannins, impeccable balance and a long, nascently complex and very promising finish. All this excellent wine needs is some time in the cellar to blossom. 2035 – 2075+.” - 94 Points, The Cellar
“The 2020 Collazzi is packed with super-ripe plum, mocha, espresso, dark chocolate and sweet oak. This plush, racy wine offers tons of immediacy. The oak imprint is a bit strong, but it works nicely for this style. Soft, plush contours wrap it all together. 2023 – 2028.” - 91 Points, Vinous
