The story of the Garesio family begins in far off lands and common roots. It starts in the vineyards of Salento, where Negroamaro grapes were pressed by bare feet, and reaches the Mondonio hills in Lower Monferrato in the Asti region, where the landscape is marked by rows of vines and woods, and life follows the rhythm of the seasons. Places far apart, but united by grape growing, winemaking traditions, hard work and respect for nature. Over the years, the passion that binds the Garesio family to wine transformed into a constant, painstaking research of the most favourable places for vine cultivation, growing indigenous grape varieties and opting for farming practices that respect the environment and the people working the land.
Since 2010, the family has acquired approximately 64 hectares of land, 21 of which under vines, divided among Serralunga d’Alba, the heart of Barolo, Perletto in Alta Langa, Incisa Scapaccino and Castelnuovo Calcea in Monferrato. Along with the vineyards, the Garesio family has undertaken the job of renovating and upgrading an old farmstead in Serralunga d’Alba. The aim of this top quality hospitality project is the creation of a place where wine becomes a daily experience, a full immersion in the flavors, nature, traditions and history of an area designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014.
Garesio Serralunga d’Alba Barolo is produced with 100% Nebbiolo grapes cultivated in Cerretta and Gianetto crus, within the commune of Serralunga d’Alba, adjacent to the Garesio cellar. Serralunga d’Alba soils are some of the oldest, dating back to the Lequio formation (Helvetian), and are rich in sandstone and limestone, giving intense brick-colored wines with strong structure and thick, enveloping tannins. However, the different expositions and elevations of these vineyards, combined with the prevalance of sandy soils, result in softer and more balanced Barolos. This wine is made with certified organic grapes.
100% Nebbiolo. Stainless steel tanks fermented. On the skins for 35 days with frequent pumping over. Aged in French and Austrian oak barrels of 25-50 Hl for 24 months. 12 months in bottle.
"The 2020 Barolo Del Comune Di Serralunga D’Alba is a bright red color and has a pretty and floral nose with notes of violets, preserved berries, hints of fresh blue fruit, and sweet earth and herbs. The palate is more structured and savory with ripe tannins, and while it has the fruit for a balanced, ripe feel, it’s never weighted and has a good deal of immediate appeal without losing serious character underneath. Drink over the next 4-5 years." - 90 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
