Tinto Pesquera is the realisation of the dream of Alejandro Fernández and Esperanza Rivera, who in 1975 began making their first wines in an old 16th century stone wine press in Pesquera de Duero. Their vision and dedication were fundamental to vindicate the value of the Ribera del Duero terroir, contributing significantly to the recognition and development of this wine region.

The winery, thanks to its pioneering approach to the production of wines made from Tempranillo grapes, craft techniques are combined with technological innovations. This commitment to quality and authenticity has allowed Tinto Pesquera to produce exceptional red wines that reflect the particularities of each vintage and terroir, always maintaining their original essence and a constant commitment to craftsmanship.

In addition, as part of the Vindesía, the Familia Fernández Rivera group's wine tourism label, Tinto Pesquera offers the wine tourism experience at ‘El Lagar’, through which visitors can immerse themselves in the magic of Ribera del Duero wine and tradition. Thanks to its various activities and tastings, wine lovers can discover the secrets of the winery and connect with the rich history behind it. This experience includes a a tour through the different areas of wine production, from the historical area to the most modern and avant-garde, allowing the visitor to observe first-hand the constant evolution of the winery.

"The producer’s top wine, first made in 1992 (the year it changed its methods of winemaking from its old original site to a new winery still in existence today), the 2018 Janus is not made every year. It’s an homage to the classic wines of the region and to the winery itself, named for a Roman/Greek god, one looking to the past and one to the future. From one vineyard site called La Rendeja littered in white limestone soils, it is extremely refined and highly structured, with an essential imprint of American oak. Powerful tannins with a touch of rusticity support a full-bodied core of black licorice and vanilla that lead to a smooth, velvety finish. Aged 28 months in barrel, it should hold its grace another 30-40 years. It’s a complete wine and rare, with no certainty around when another Janus might be produced." - 99 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
