Château Figeac - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2009

IN STOCK - 6 left in stock

Château-Figeac spreads across a 54-hectare single block of land, to the west of the Saint-Emilion appellation.

On the fringe of the Château Cheval Blanc vineyard and the Pomerol appellation, Château-Figeac comprises 40 hectares of vines, including 0.65 hectares of old vines dedicated exclusively to massal selections, but also 14 hectares dedicated to preserving this rare biodiversity.

A geological wonder within an exceptional appellation, the estate’s vineyard rests on three outcrops composed of Günzian gravel. Comprising quartz, flint and blue clay, the soil gives a unique signature style to this illustrious reference among the finest Saint-Émilion wines.

Eager to manage its vineyard using sustainable practices, Château-Figeac has followed an international environmental standard since 2015 and has obtained the HEV level 3 certificate since 2018.

The Grand Vin of the Saint Emilion Grand Cru Chateau Figeac is matured for a period of 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels of which 100% new oak each year. The blend is typically comprised of equal portion of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, although the exact percentages vary with each vintage.

"Even in this super-ripe vintage Figeac retains its usual red bell pepper aroma (from the cabernet sauvignon grape) and that adds a light touch to the opulent fruit cake and spice character. The full fine tannins beautifully support the rich palate and make the finish very long and plush. A great 2009!" - 97 points, James Suckling

"This is quite a luscious full-bodied Figeac, brimming with black cherry, cassis, raspberry, and other black fruits. Aeration releases an array of spices that adds to its seductive style, with a peppery top note coming from Cabernet Franc. Magnificent depth on the palate with underlying energy and tension. What is remarkable is how subtle and fresh the wine remains despite its strength of character." - 96 points, Decanter

"Distinctive, with atypical (for St.-Emilion) force and drive to the black currant, roasted cedar and maduro tobacco flavors, which are supported by a dense, loam-tinged structure. Terrific roasted espresso, ganache and fig paste notes wait in reserve. Very muscular, but with the cut for balance." - 96 points, Wine Spectator
