Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières 2021

IN STOCK

The domaine of Etienne Sauzet is made up of 26 acres, much of it in the heart of the finest premier cru vineyards of Puligny-Montrachet. The average age of the vines is 30-35 years. Gérard Boudot, owner of Domaine Sauzet, is seeking maximum finesse and an individual expression of the terroir in his wines. Boudot, who married the granddaughter of the late Etienne Sauzet, runs the domaine and has modernized and improved the vinification, making Sauzet wines among the most sought-after white wines of Burgundy. The estate has been bottling 100% of its production since the early 1950's. Since 1975, the domaine has been selling the entirety of its production in bottle. The white wines of Puligny-Montrachet are some of the most famous and most widely acclaimed in the world. This is undoubtedly due to the local microclimates and the clay, siliceous sand and lime contents of the soil.

"The most complete and showiest of the Premier Crus on the day I tasted them, this Perrières started its charm with an effusive nose of flint, oatmeal and vibrant yellow fruits. The nicely concentrated palate vibrates with tingly tension and minerally depth. This is textbook Puligny-Montrachet that will thrill now and for years to com" - 94 points, Tim Atkin

"Monsieur Riffault’s 2021 example of Perrières is an outstanding young wine. The wine offers up beautiful precision in its complex bouquet of apple, pear, lemon blossoms, a fine base of chalky soil, orange peel and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and utterly classical in profile, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent soil signature, brisk acids and impeccable balance on the long, focused and complex finish. Fine, fine juice. 2026-2055+" - 93 points, John Gilman

"Note: from vines planted in 1986 and located in very compact and rocky soil. This too displays a plethora of floral elements on the cool aromas of mostly citrus confit and various white orchard fruit scents. There is both excellent cut and mid-palate density to the succulent but exceptionally intense medium-bodied flavors that are like rolling tiny pebbles around in the mouth before concluding in a very dry but not really austere finale. This refined and focused effort will also benefit from at least a few years of patience. *Burghound Outstanding!*" - 91-94 points, Burghound
