The village and appellation of Chambolle Musigny is one that delights true Burgundy lovers like no other. It stands alone as the supreme example of Pinot Noir at its most elegant and finesseful. In tasting the wines of Anne and Hervé Sigaut, one experiences as classic and archetypal examples as can be found.
Although they collaborate on all aspects of the production, she is a bit more in vineyards, and he more in the cellar. Because they don’t own any Grand Cru vineyards, they have largely remained “under-the-radar” in a village that certainly doesn’t lack for anointed stars. Like their understated personalities, the Sigauts prefer to make wines on the fine and delicate side, wines that caress rather than clobber. They are helped by a bevy of old vines, many 50-60+ years old, that have long ago tapped the limestone bedrock that is the signature of this famed village.
Rigorous work in the vineyards to keep the yields extremely low and strict sorting at harvest ensure that only the best grapes go to the fermentation vats. The domaine's philosophy is to respect terroir through traditional wine-making: only indigenous yeasts are used and no technical manipulation throughout vinification and élevage.
We now enter the world of the great white wines of the Côte de Beaune. Puligny-Montrachet yields some of the purest and most elegant wines of Burgundy. This plot of the winery was bought in 1994. This climat enjoys privileged location at the heart of the Puligny-Montrachet villages. It is located right below the grands crus Bâtard-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet. These old vine stocks are pampered since they are horse plowed. This wines comes from 65 year old vines.
The nose shows great finesse, with citrus and white flowers aromas. A touch of spice (vanilla) brings its some complexity. A perfectly balanced texture with great finesse rounds out the palate. A harmonious and crystal clear Chardonnay from Burgundy. To pair with sea bass and butter sauce.
