Domaine Michel Lafarge - Meursault 2022

IN STOCK

For over six decades, the legendary Michel Lafarge was at the helm of Domaine Lafarge, with his son Frédéric joining him in 1978. In 2018, the next generation, Clothilde Lafarge, daughter of Frédéric and Chantal, came on board, continuing the family's winemaking legacy. The domaine is renowned for producing some of the greatest traditional Volnays, farmed biodynamically since 2000. Its history stretches back to the early 19th century, with the iconic Clos du Château des Ducs Monopole acquired by Michel Lafarge’s father in 1900. The vineyard is accessible by the backdoor of Lafarge’s house. The domaine oversees 11.6 hectares of vineyards, primarily in Volnay and Beaune, including a 0.9-hectare holding in the esteemed Clos des Chênes and several top Premier Cru vineyards in the appellation. Their vinification process remains traditional, with 100% destemmed grapes and restrained use of new oak (around 15% for the top cuvées). This approach highlights the purity of the fruit, resulting in wines that are exceptionally focused, energetic, and expressive of their terroir. I believe, what sets Domaine Lafarge apart is the synergy of biodynamic farming, prime vineyard sites, and traditional winemaking. It has been my privilege to meet the Lafarge family on various occasions, through tastings and visits. Beyond producing remarkable wines, they are genuinely kind and gracious people – a quality, I believe, adds to the greatness of their wines.

Pressed with whole clusters, settled, ambient yeast fermentation and aging for 12-16 months in barrels, bâtonnage until malolactic conversion begins, racked once, fined and/or filtered if necessary.

“The 2022 Meursault Village comes from a blend of three vineyards located just below Santenots-du-Milieu, aged in used oak barrels and racked at the end of August, to be bottled next spring. It has a well-defined bouquet with crushed stone and hazelnut scents infusing the orchard fruit. The palate is fresh on the entry with a touch of white pepper mixed with orange rind, dovetailing into a lively, slightly menthol-tinged finish. Kind of a "fun" Meursault.” - 91 Points, Vinous

"Aromas of sweet flowers, almond paste and buttered pears preface the 2022 Meursault Village, a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy wine that's rich and generous.” - 90 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
