The winery was founded in 1986 in La Morra, a village in the heart of the Langhe, always known for its vineyards, some of which were mentioned in the municipalities books since 1350.
Of the living winemaking legends in Piedmont, there are few quite like Roberto Voerzio. His fame is international, his philosophy uncompromising, and his Barolo wines seemingly eternal. Nebbiolo here is deep and soulful, wonderfully juicy yet utterly refined, with flavors that tend toward riper, blacker fruits. Voerzio wines should never be rushed, however, as they require at least five years in bottle before revealing their true nature. And there is no question that this true nature—suave, concentrated, textured—places Azienda Agricola Roberto Voerzio solidly in the ranks of Italy’s finest winemaking estates.
Estate vines in ‘Brunate’ sit at 900-1,200 feet in altitude in the commune of La Morra, facing east/southeast. Each older vine is pruned carefully, to ensure very low yields, approx. 500 grams of fruit per plant. One of the top vineyards in La Morra, renowned for its structure and intensity.
Hand-harvested between end September and early October. Fermented on indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Aged for 24 months in older French oak barrels and 15HL “botti,” then an additional eight months in tank, followed by eight months in bottle before release. Unfined and unfiltered.
"The 2008 Barolo Brunate is beautifully balanced from start to finish. Freshly cut flowers, mint, licorice, hard candy and dark red fruit are layered in this utterly impeccable Barolo. Waves of fruit build toward a huge, dramatic finish supported by serious tannins, yet the Brunate remains one of the more understated wines here. The Brunate is all about length, weightless elegance and an elusiveness that is only matched by the greatest Burgundies. This is a dazzling effort. Readers should expect the Brunate to take the better part of a decade to become expressive. Following the Brunate over the course of several days was immensely rewarding. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2033." - 98 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
