Bruno Rocca - Barbaresco 2020

"In viniculture, there are no magic formulas, no premade recipes. There is only research, experience, and work. The reasoning you gain from daily work in close contact with the vines helps you construct your own idea of agriculture and wine." - Francesco Rocca

"Francesco Rocca is one of the most thoughtful young growers in Barbaresco. That shows in wines that are increasingly nuanced. The 2020 and 2021 vintages are both strong. I find the 2020s a bit more open, while the 2021s show quite a bit of reserve. The wines see 35-40 days on the skins, very much on the long side. Aging is about 16 months in cask, a bit less than in some recent years. The Riservas see one more week on the skins, with submerged cap maceration, and three additional months in cask. In 2020, the Nebbiolo harvest started on September 29 and ended on October 9, while in 2021 harvest started on October 8 and ended on the 13, which is late by today’s standards." - Antonio Galloni Vinous

"The 2020 Barbaresco is gorgeous. Bright and focused, with terrific depth, the 2020 has a lot to recommend it. Red cherry fruit, blood orange, cinnamon and rose petal are all nicely lifted. This mid-weight, accessible Barbaresco is quite the charmer. All the elements are so well put together. Lively acids and pretty floral top notes extend the finish." - 92 points, Antonio Galloni Vinous

Wine Advocate: "The classic Bruno Rocca 2020 Barbaresco surprisingly reveals cool-vintage aromas from what was in fact a warm growing season. When given ample time to open, this pretty Nebbiolo offers a long list of aromatic characteristics, starting off with a dusty note of white calcium that spans out to broad aromas of purple fruits and spice. However, that delicate mineral note is the wine's distinguishing factor, and it adds grace and enormous elegance to the finished results. You usually don't get this level of detail or finesse in the hot years, but this wine pulls it off without a hitch."
