Grattamacco was founded in 1977 and was the second winery of the Bolgheri appellation, following Sassicaia. Grattamacco has lead the region in environmentally responsible farming, and was the first to use an Alberello or head-pruned method in Bolgheri. The winery lies on a rise between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, with a panoramic view of the Tuscan coast. The Grattamacco vineyards are located at about 330 ft. above sea level, in a wonderfully protected plot that spans over one of Bolgheri's only two hills, and is surrounded by other internationally renowned Bolgheri properties. The property has been part of the ColleMassari Group since 2002.
The nose is a combo of dark fruits and chocolate with notes of plum and black currants, elegant and full with a fresh balsamic finish given by the Sangiovese. A dense and powerful wine with ripe tannins, juicy and rich with a striking structure. Grattamacco uses the typical “Bordeaux” approach with the Bolgheri Superiore that is selected directly from the best barrels to enhance elegance and aging potential, while the Rosso is selected for its freshness and drinkability.
"A blend of 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 10% Sangiovese, and the remainder Petit Verdot, the 2024 Bolgheri Rosso pours a youthful ruby/purple hue and is highly aromatic, with crushed wildflowers, black raspberry, cherry, orange, and refined herbal spice. Medium- to full-bodied, it’s elegant and light on its feet, with fine tannins, balanced acidity, and a linear, graceful profile with mineral undertones. It combines freshness with depth and finishes with excellent precision and length. Drink 2026-2040." - 94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
