The legendary maestro, Mariano Garcia founded Bodegas Mauro in 1980 as an homage to his father, in the historic town of Tudelo, by the River Duero in the province of Valladolid. Mariano García was the first degree-holding winemaker at Vega Sicilia, where his father had always worked and where he himself had been born.
Much credit for Ribera’s rapid ascent goes to Mariano García. Mariano Garcia is a very historical figure in Ribera. He has been making wine in Ribera since 1968.
VS is a wine for aging with enormous concentration, complexity and elegance. Sourced from a selection of vines from two of Mauro's very best vineyards.
Energy, vivacity, excellent fruit weight and suave tannins are combined in a well-rounded wine, fine and enveloping, with multiple layers.
“The textbook red 2020 Mauro comes from a cooler year with freshness and balance. It's powerful and ripe with 14.5% alcohol and a medium to full-bodied palate that reveals a juicy and creamy wine with very good balance and drinkability. It was produced with Tinto Fino/Tempranillo and 15% between Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, and it fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in barrels and foudres of different ages for 15 months. This is a very drinkable vintage of Mauro with very good balance and stuffing and, therefore, aging potential in bottle.” - 94 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
"Herbaceous on the nose, with hints of crushed pine and thyme. On the palate this swathes firm, fine-grained tannins in a creamy mix of plum pudding, mandarin orange peel, mocha and graphite notes. Fresh and focused on the lingering, spiced finish. Best from 2026 through 2031. 3,600 cases made, 200 cases imported." - 93 points, Wine Spectator
