Domaine Nico is named after Laura's daughter, Nicola, which pays homage to Laura's great grand-father, Nicola Catena, founder of Catena Zapata winery in 1902.
"Domaine Nico was born from my obsession for Burgundy Pinot Noir. When I realized we could make a Pinot Noir with the classic floral aromas, minerality and elegance, we began studying the flavors of high altitude Pinot Noir from Mendoza. The wines that came up surprised me with their elegance and old-worldstyle. It’s the aluvional and calcareous terroir that speaks through these wines." - Laura Catena
This cool climate vineyard that belongs to Laura and her sister Adrianna Catena feels like paradise itself to Laura. It is lined by trees and fruit orchards, with majestic views of the Andes. Inside the 12 Hectare vineyard, there is a little house with two tiny bedrooms and a kitchen, where Laura dreams of spending a whole month reading books - Laura’s version of paradise. The little house is affectionately named Château Laura.
Aged in 10% new barrels and 90% second-use French barrels for18 months.

Distinctly tighter on the palate, with a powerful chalky, crushed-stone character currently keeping the wine's red fruit flavors quite clenched. It's hard to imagine that this very saline wine, from a cool, wet year, will expand as much in bottle as the 2017 will, but it should nonetheless evolve slowly." - 91 Points, Vinous
