Viñedo Chadwick 2009/2010/2011 (3-pack) Vertical

In 1942 Don Alfonso Chadwick had bought the Viña San José de Tocornal estate situated in Puente Alto on the rural outskirts of Santiago. It was here that Don Alfonso built his home and polo field. The estate comprised 300 hectares, 216 of which were planted to vineyards. It was certainly clear to the family that this place had an exceptional terroir, especially for its red wines. Managed by Don Alfonso with great passion for over 20 years, it is this vineyard – with its history dating back to 1880s – that was the origin of Chile’s most coveted appellation for fine Cabernet Sauvignon: Puente Alto DO.

In 1992, a tightly defined 15-hectare vineyard was carefully planted with vines produced through massal selection from the best Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in the family’s vineyards. A year later, Don Alfonso passed away, so he never saw or tasted the finished wine that was named after him. It is for this reason that his son Eduardo became so passionate in his quest to honour his father’s legacy through this wine. More than anything, Eduardo and his family have sought to create and craft the ultimate expression of this vineyard, as a permanent tribute to Don Alfonso’s passion for wine and his constant pursuit of excellence.

Viñedo Chadwick is farmed using the best sustainable practice to produce healthy and balanced grapes. Precision viticulture and extremely rigorous grape selection are employed, along with gentle handling and the finest winemaking methods. The approach has always been to create a wine of exceptional balance, freshness and purity, respecting each vintage character and reflecting the best expression of our land.

This a library release vertical pack Orginal Wooden Box that comes with bottle of each of the following vintages: 2009, 2010, 2011.

2009: “The 2009 Vinedo Chadwick is aged for 22 months in French oak of which 93% is new. It has a lovely, Margaux inspired floral bouquet with superb delineation and vigor. The palate is rounded and generous with fine tannins and excellent delineation towards the finish. I actually think this is a better wine than the Sena 2009! Drink now-2025.” - 93 Points, Robert Parker

2010: “Slightly floral on the nose with cherry blossom notes, ripe black fruits and dried herbs - smells rich and concentrated. Direct and vibrant, this has power and concentration on the palate - a grippy, slightly fleshy to begin with but then the fine-grained tannins come into play. Sleek overall texture with some heat from the vintage coming through in the ripe raspberry, cherry and strawberry fruit with liquorice, cinnamon, clove spicing. It's quite dense in the mouth, lots of mint, full of eucalyptus and touches of toast on the mid palate, but such depth and completeness of flavour. This layers and verticality rather than wide and expansive, still with tension, sleekness and linearity. Lovely control and refinement, powerful, but well constructed and darkly charming with freshness and mass appeal. Ageing 22 months in French oak barrels, 95% new. A cool season with long hang time. Total heat summation was 1,509 degree days, 242 fewer than in 2009, leading to a longer than usual harvest time. Drink now or hold for up to 10 years. One of three new library releases of Viñedo Chadwick entering the Place de Bordeaux in March.” - 95 Points, Decanter

2011: “Confident, smoky aromas of black fruits, quality oak and minerality set up a round, dense, smooth palate that's as elegant as things get in Chile. True Cabernet Sauvignon flavors are spicy, lightly herbal and suggest licorice, cassis and blackberry. On the finish, warm oak, menthol and medicinal flavors call for another few years in bottle.” - 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast
