Alto Horizonte - Garnacha Alto de la Cruz 2021

IN STOCK

The Alto Horizonte project is based in the village of Navatalgordo, in the province of Ávila, flanking the north and south banks of the Rio Alberche. The mountainous terrain creates one of the most unique and challenging geographies for cultivating vitis vinifera in all of Spain, which, combined with emigration from the region has resulted in a massive loss of old vineyards, and a total lack of new plantings. This is one of the coolest and highest altitude appellations for the cultivation of Garnacha in Spain. Alto de la Cruz is Aurelio Garcia's "premier cru," single estate wine blended from five states from the town of Navatalgordo.

The clusters are sorted, and 100% whole clusters ferment spontaneously in concrete tanks. Pre-fermentative maceration for four to five days, and extraction is very gentle throughout the maceration. The wine is pressed in a vertical basket press and undergoes malolactic fermentation in 100% concrete tanks.

“Fine, powdery nose with a smoky minerality and lots of fresh red cherries, rose petals, red pepper and berries. Medium body and chalky tannins on the palate with a bright, fruit-expressive finish. Drink now.” - 92 Points, James Suckling
