Alvar de Dios - Las Vidres 'Villadepera' 2018

IN STOCK

Las Vidres is a 0.6 hectare enclosed vineyard located in Villadepera, just a few miles from the border of Portugal. With a gentle, southeastern exposure, this site is planted with 80-90-year-old Doña Blanca rooted in volcanic soils – sandy decomposed grey and white schist with plenty of mica. Las Vidres is a profoundly terroir-driven wine with an intense minerality and freshness. This site is being brought back to life by Alvar, so quantities are small – just a 228L and 350L barrel in an average vintage.

Crafted in limited quantities, Las Vidres is a must-have for those seeking a captivating and distinctive wine experience.

“These are fresh wines with good acidity; they are a different, more elegant style of Toro. A name to follow.” - Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The white 2018 Las Vidres was produced with Doña Blanca grapes from a centenary vineyard in the Arribes de Duero on slate volcanic soils. The clusters were pressed directly, and the juice was put in barrel to ferment with indigenous yeasts and temperature control. It matured in 228- and 350-liter oak barrels for one year. It's only 12% alcohol and has good freshness. This is austere and feels naked, not very expressive on the nose—it's more about soil and rocks than fruit and is spicy and herbal. It has a vibrant palate with lots of detail. It is subtle and insinuating, with light and energy, gobsmacking balance and a sensation of harmony and a dry, tasty (almost salty) finish that makes me think of a wine that is going to be long lived in bottle. 1,056 bottles were filled in June 2020." - 94 Points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
