Bodegas El Nido - 'Clio' Jumilla 2008

IN STOCK - 7 left in stock

The Bodegas El Nido winery is located in the Valle de La Aragona, inside the Murcia district of Jumilla. The vineyards are 76.8 acres of very old Monastrell vines (also known as Mataró or Mourvèdre) all vaso trained and oriented northeast, and 28.8 acres of 30-year old Cabernet Sauvignon vines on north facing hills. The vineyards have a foot deep layer of chalky stones over substrata of sandy soil. The Bodegas El Nido is a collaboration of the Gil Family and winemaker Chris Ringland, one of the best Australian enologists.

This wine exhibits a glass-coating opaque purple color. It has an expressive nose of pain grille, brier, minerality and blueberry and blackberry overtones. This plush, opulent wine has great density, savory flavors and a very lengthy finish that gets better with age.

"Ripe and meaty, the 2008 Bodegas El Nido Jumilla Clio, mostly Monastrell from vines averaging 60 years in age, sports a dense purple color to go with spiced cassis and black fruits, tobacco, coffee, and loamy earth like aromas on the nose. Despite the expected upfront fruit, this shows solid underlying herb, pepper and mineral characteristics that lend complexity to what is normally a very fruit driven wine. Full bodied and beautifully balanced on the palate, with loads of polished, hedonistic fruit, a silky, light texture, and long finish, this is a gorgeous wine that delivers solid aromatics, as well as a silky, polished palate. I don’t know how this will age (given the blend, one would think very well) but it’s certainly delicious now and given then upfront profile, I don’t see any reason to hold off either." - 94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
