Castello di Neive - Barbaresco 2022

IN STOCK - 10 left in stock

Castello di Neive and the surrounding 150 acre estate are owned by the Stupino family, siblings Anna, Giulio, Italo, and Piera. The Castello di Neive winery began when Giacomo Stupino, the family patriarch, capitalized on his experience as a surveyor and his knowledge of the area to purchase favorable vineyards and land whenever possible. In the small cellars of their family home, the Stupino’s began their first wine production (including Messoirano, Montebertotto, Basarin, Valtorta, and i Cortini) and, over time, their acquired vineyards grew with the family’s production and ambitions. In 1964 the family purchased the castle with its spacious cellars, along with more land and farmsteads in Santo Stefano and Marcorino. This marked a turning point when the Stupino’s were able to renovate the castle cellars and reorganize their vineyards to produce wine according to modern methods. When Giacomo died in 1970, Giulio and Italo oversaw the transition from tenant farming to direct management of the land, initiating production and export of Castello di Neive wines abroad.

Castello di Neive comprises a 150 acre (60 hectares) estate, all in the Neive town council, in the Langhe area of the Piedmont region. Sixty-two acres (25 hectares) of the property are devoted to grape growing and all the production (approximately 12,000 cases a year) is obtained from Castello di Neive’s own vines in the following vineyards: Basarin, Cortini, Gallina, Marcorino, Messoirano-Montebertotto, Santo Stefano and Valtorta.

The grapes for Castello di Neive - Barbaresco  come from some of the most-respected vineyards in the Barbaresco DOCG (Gallina, Messoirano, Valtorta, and a part of Santo Stefano).  It is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown on vines that average 30 years of age.  The grapes for this wine are pressed and then allowed to mature in wooden vats for 2 years to smooth the tannins and develop the wines’ complex flavors.

"Red roses and wild cherries greet you with Barbaresco's signature finesse, lifted by crushed tart raspberries, subtle fresh herbs and savory spice. The palate unfolds with graceful precision, weaving together these complex threads of red fruits, herbs and spice, all carried by silken tannins. An elegant expression that delivers remarkable depth while maintaining its poise. Drink Now - 2050." - 94 Points, Wine Enthusiast

"The 2022 Barbaresco is a terrific entry-level offering. Rich, fruity and forward, the 2022 is all charm. Sweet red cherry fruit, blood orange, cinnamon and new saddle leather are front and center. Soft contours wrap it all together in style." - 91 Points, Antonio Galloni Vinous

"A well-delineated red, bursting with energy, along with aromas and flavors of cherry, strawberry, rose, tar, licorice and sweet spices. Dense and vibrant, with a long aftertaste echoing the spice notes. Best from 2026 through 2042. 5,000 cases made, 2,000 cases imported." - 93 Points, Wine Spectator
