Collazzi 'Collazzi' Toscana IGT 2018

Villa Collazzi is one of the most impressive estates in all of Tuscany. This architectural landmark was originally designed by Michelangelo in 1560 for his friend, Agostino Dini. It offers commanding views of the surrounding countryside. I Collazzi is a property of the Marchi brothers, Carlo and Bona. During the last decade the Marchi brothers invested heavily in the development of Collazzi’s farming business, renewing the vineyards and restructuring the cellar, with the goal of producing excellent wines.

Deep red color. Elegant, complex aromas of spicy balsamic and hints of ripe black fruits. Silky, rich, intense and full-bodied on the palate. The wine finishes with roundness and elegance from the beautifully balanced structure.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot; alcohol: 14.5%; estate vineyards near Galluzzo in Impruneta province (Florence); clay, limestone, partly sandy soils enriched in minerals; drier, warmer climate in natural ampitheater allows for longer ripening; each variety and plot hand harvested and vinified separately; rigorous manual berry sorting before pressing; fermented in small stainless steel barrels; malolactic fermentation in oak barriques; aged in 225 L French oak barrels for 18 months; bottle aged for 12 months.

"A rich red, yet there’s underlying freshness and firmness for this ripe vintage. Lots of blackberry and blueberry character and chocolate underneath. It’s full-to medium-bodied with firm tannins and a pretty finish. Try after 2022." - 94 points, James Suckling

"The 2017 Collazzi is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, a blend that works so well here. Juicy black cherry, dark plum, mocha, grilled herbs, lavender and dried herbs all flesh out in this sumptuous, luscious wine." - 92 points, Vinous
