Domaine A.-F Gros -Echezeaux Grand Cru 2023

Founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros, Domaine A.F. Gros reflects her determination to build a distinctive estate from her family’s Burgundian heritage. The daughter of Jean and Jeanine Gros of Vosne-Romanée, Anne-Françoise established the domaine with parcels from the family holdings, acquiring additional vineyards in Flagey-Échezeaux and later Savigny-lès-Beaune. Her work transformed an inherited foundation into an estate bearing her own name and identity.

Anne-Françoise’s marriage to François Parent of Pommard united two established winegrowing families and brought together vineyards across the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. While François directed winemaking, Anne-Françoise played a central role in establishing and expanding the domaine. Her commitment to Pommard was reinforced by the acquisition of Premier Cru Les Chanlins in 2004, complementing distinguished holdings that include Richebourg and Échezeaux Grand Cru. The family established its cellars in Beaune in 1998.

The domaine’s range expresses the breadth of that vision, encompassing Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Pommard, Beaune, and Savigny-lès-Beaune. Its reputation rests on Pinot Noirs combining aromatic finesse with depth and structure, while a later acquisition in Moulin-à-Vent extended the family’s work into Beaujolais.

Today, two of Anne-Françoise and François’s three children, Caroline and Mathias Parent, carry the estate forward. Caroline oversees commercial and administrative activities, while Mathias leads vineyard work and winemaking. Their stewardship continues the domaine Anne-Françoise founded: an expression of her family inheritance, strengthened through her own acquisitions and now entrusted to the next generation.

"The 2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a stemmy nose, well defined with black plum and cranberry scents plus a touch of Seville orange marmalade. The palate is well balanced with a dose of black pepper on the entry, quite tarry in style. The 2023 is a little nod to Côte Rôtie in some ways, with a nicely structured, gutsy finish and will needs four or five years in bottle." - 93 Points, Vinous
